For today's feature Bruce is back on the 30th floor of the Jingguang Building in Arup's office talking with Associate Director Chas Pope. Arup is one of the UK's leading structural engineering and building design companies.
They start by thinking of the scale of recent changes in China. Chas has been particularly impressed by the expansion of the railway system - the massive modernisation programme in recent years has seen almost the entire country connected into an efficient, sustainable way of transporting large numbers of people and great amounts of freight? They talk also of how urban transportation improvements in recent years has transformed moving around cities such as Beijing.
After talking more of the ongoing expansion of Beijing's CBD they talk of Chongqing where Arup have been involved with the construction of the very prominent landmark, Raffles City. Chas talks of Chongqing resembling in many ways an inland Hong Kong!
Finally they talk of work to reuse the site of Shanghai 2010 EXPO and of how Beijing has little land left in central locations for any more grand construction projects.
