Yoga devotee Erin Lee Henshaw talks in today's feature of the 'mind, body connection' and of the importance of yoga in helping create a sense of harmony.
Erin leads yoga classes at The Hutong Centre near Beixinqiao and at 'Mind, Body, Project' retreats (or ashrams) around Beijing and Sanya on Hainan. Her students go to the 'ashrams to develop relaxation skills and find a sense of peace which hopefully gives them mental strength for coping with the stress of everyday urban life.
Erin suggest how to try and reduce blood pressure through exercise, relaxation, body posture, good sleep and a healthy diet that includes nutritious vegetables. Classes at The Hutong include a dietary input from popular Indian chef Reshma Khan.
Yoga, as Erin explains, is a communal activity - people practice together and the whole experience should be fun while not being a challenge.
