The new craze on Nanluoguxiang
Beijing's very popular alley, Nanluoguxiang, in Dongcheng District seems constantly to be changing. Increasingly franchised snack stalls with fast customer service are replacing slower paced cafe bars. Dominic Johnson-Hill, proprietor of Plasterd 8 t-shirts on the alley stresses that innovation is important for survival - visitors are constantly looking for something new.
A recent craze on the alley is wearing little hair clips sprouting plastic grass or flowers - great for photography as you can see on our webpages.
Dominic explains how most of his business is through direct selling via his shops - he is not so keen on e-commerce because he prefers to create a 'store experience' which the customers obviously enjoy.
Part of Dominic's success is through television appearances across China. People see him and when they visit Beijing they find his Nanluoguxiang shop and take 'selfies'! He also gives entrepreneurial talks at universities in cities such as Chengdu, Chongqing, Wuhan, Harbin and Guangzhou.
