China is a major centre for beer production and consumption. On hot summer days in particular, a cold beer can be very refreshing. Most Chinese beers are of a Pilsner lager style. As living standards and income have improved so there has been a growing interest in craft beers - literally 'hand made' often in small premises such as some of the excellent micro-brew pubs today in Beijing. There also is a considerable growth in the production of new beers worldwide - a trend started mainly in the U.S. but now found in many countries including Scotland.

Recently some Scottish craft beers have been introduced with growing success and interest onto the Chinese domestic market.

Charlie McLean, a leading whisky expert from Edinburgh and Christopher Miller of the 'Craft Beer Clan of Scotland' were in Beijing recently - both were wearing kilts, as can be seen on our web pages.  They were representing a portfolio of over 20 small Scottish brewers and helping introduce them to larger markets such as China. Charlie explains how his skills with whisky are transferable to craft beers.  The 'Craft Beer Clan' is working with the 'Single Malt Club China' in developing an interest here of some of Scotland's finest drinks.
