Jim Murray has a job which many a connoisseur of fine whiskies would envy. He is a full time writer on whisky  and was in Beijing recently at 'Whisky L' festival. At the two day event Jim entertained visitors with classes on whisky appreciation and was also talking about his latest publication, 'The Whisky Bible 2015'. This book contains an appreciation and scoring for several thousand whiskies produced worldwide. Revised annually it has sold over 500,000 copies - throughout its publication time Jim has sampled over 50,000 whiskies!!

Jim explains that a whisky assessor does not drink the whisky - instead, he sniffs the aromas, sips, swirls in his mouth and spits out. All this must be done in a sterile environment where there is no other smell or aroma such as cooking, fires or even flowers!! Jim explains also that he does not smoke which also helps keep his sense of taste.

Jim was a journalist based in Scotland for a major English newspaper. As a young man he hitchhiked around Scotland and visited his first whisky distillery on the beautiful Isle of Skye. Later he decided to give up his full time job and follow his dream - the world of whisky. With passion Jim has not only visited every distillery worldwide but goes to every country where there is a market for whisky to introduce to the audiences the story of Scotland's 'Water of Life'.
