Australian writer and poet, Maxine Beneba Clarke was in Beijing recently as part of the 2015 Australian Writers Week. Before she departed back south to her homeland Bruce caught up with Maxine to discover more about her work.
Through family and her own travel and migration experiences Maxine has brought in a range of geographical locations including New Orleans, London and Australia into her writings.
Her latest book, 'Foreign Soil' is a collection of stories based around people as they experience the unknown and unexpected in lands they have migrated or moved to. Today migration has become a major part in many people's lives whether from countryside to city or changing continents.
This has been Maxine's first visit to China and it has been an amazing experience - indeed she hopes to return as soon as possible.
The Writers Week has allowed her to speak with a variety of enthusiastic audiences in Beijing including universities and schools.
