K: Actually “luge’’ is the French word for “sled’’. Historical records indicate the existence of sleds as early as 800 AD with the Vikings in Norway. A “bobsleigh’’ is also called “bobsled’’. The fiberglass and metal sled racer is called a skeleton because it resembles a human skeleton.
