Recently, we have presented a series of stories of Malan children’s band on various channels of Radio Beijing, including Radio 774. The programs have aroused a lot of attention from the listeners. Our reporter Summar has more.

During the past 8 years, Deng Xiaolan spends 2 / 3 of her income on Malan village. Year after year, Deng Xiaolan re-furbished the primary school buildings, supported the children of poor families, helped the villagers to change their health habits; introduced flush toilets and solar energy to the villagers; she funded to build roads, plant trees and promote tours to the village.

A Li, director of the documentary of “the song of Malan” says, compared to the change Deng Xiaolan made to the village, the spiritual changes she brought to Malan villagers is more important.

Since arrived in Malan village, Deng Xiaolan taught the children music, built their self-confidence; the children had fun and dreams. So our documentary tries to emphasize the spirit that Deng Xiaolan brings to the villagers. She insisted on teaching the students and helping the rest of the villagers for such a long time, which is not easy to achieve.

Deng Xiaolan’s story also inspired a lot of young people. Mr. Zhang, an audience of our program has this to say.

Deng Xiaolan’s story really inspired me. I intend to going to Malan village and help the students there as much as I can. Young people are usually busy with work, but we can start from the easy part. For example, we can do voluntary work in nursing home, orphanage, or community.
