Quality Scotch whiskies have been coming into China for many years, leading for example to the creation of the ‘Single Malt Club of China.’ Recently the ‘Craft Beer Clan of Scotland’ has partnered with that club to introduce some of the country’s finest hand crafted beers to the Chinese market. Clan organiser Chris Miller and drinks expert Charlie McLean were in Beijing recently promoting the products. Indeed such is the growing popularity that they can be over here every three to six months visiting Beijing, Shanghai and Taipei. The products are also taking off for example in Dubai, the UAE and hopefully soon in Thailand and South Korea.

Chris explains the marketing and strategic support they receive from organisations such as Scottish Development International and how they are increasingly growing alongside the ‘single malt’ whiskies.

Charlie and Chris talk of the School of Brewing and Distilling at Edinburgh’s Herriot Watt University and its long academic links with China. They talks also of new developments such as using former whisky barrels for beer storage and the unique flavours produced.

Presently 2015 is the ‘Year of Food and Drink’ in Scotland – with many people recognising the pure, clean ingredients of the country’s products.
