Belgian chef Reinout Reniere was in Beijing recently introducing diners at the TRB (Temple Restaurant Beijing) to the fine cuisine he normally prepares in his restaurant back in Brugge. His philosophy about running Restaurant Zeno is to always ‘do his own thing’ – to keep to his concepts and create variety by using seasonally available produce. In Beijing he has been impressed by the range and quality of fresh vegetables he can find in the local markets, produce which has allowed him to create excitement at TRB.

Diners frequenting his restaurant talk of a ‘Voyage of Discovery’ – the flavours, colours, aromas bring back memories of family cuisine. Belgian people are very passionate about their national cuisine – with so many natural ingredients within easy reach they feel they have some of the finest food prepared in Europe. Brugge itself is becoming an important regional centre for fine dining. Although a small city, it has a great advantage with its historic architecture and winding canals all within a very peaceful, quiet environment.

For Reinout, this is his first visit to Beijing and shortly after arriving in Beijing from Europe he was out at a street stall enjoying a local breakfast. Apart from preparing his exciting meals at TRB he was determined to experience as much of Beijing as he possibly could within one week!
