In recent features we learned how Danish photographer Jens Schott Knudsen introduced Bruce to Beijing's first stock exchange located on Qianmen Xiheyan Jie west of Zhengyangmen. In today's final feature on this amazing building we join them on the wooden balcony above the main trading floor of the former exchange. Along the passageways are former offices from some of the trading companies.
The building when it was active in the early 20th century had obviously been a very impressive place frequented by many well-dressed financial traders.
Jens and Bruce squeeze along the passageways today often used for storing items like bicycles. They come to the southern end where a window allows them to look out over more traditional tiled roofs of nearby courtyards - quite a contrast in building styles. Much of the area has a range of building designs from different periods but when the stock exchange was active it was at the heart of Beijing's early financial district.
Jens introduces Bruce to many fascinating aspects of this unique two floor building before they head off to another amazing building Bruce discovered recently.
Photos with this feature are examples of Jens Schott Knudsen's amazing photography. Discover more examples at www.pamhule.com
