War is a horrible thing, so we should avoid it at all costs. Human beings have been fighting one another since the beginning of time. They fight over various things, from religion to money. There are no winners in a war, because in the end, many people on both sides end up dying. During times of war, people lose their homes, jobs, and their families are broken. The only way for any country to win a war is not to fight at all. Peace is the only answer.

本句中划线的since是介词，表「自从」，之后接各词词组the beginning of time(时间的开端)作宾语，形成副词短语。此类短语在句中出现时，主句的动词应采现在完成时(have / has +过去分词)或现在完成进行时(have/ has + been +现在分词)。
例：Ihave been waiting heresince6 PM. Two hours have passed, and my girl friend hasn't shown up yet.
我从下午六点就一直在这儿等着。两个小时都过去了，而我女友尚未现身。
2. since亦可作副词连词，亦表「自从」，之后引导过去时副词从句，修饰主句，主句的动词亦应采现在完成时或现在完成进行时。
例：Ihave enjoyed music ever since I was a little girl.
我从小就喜欢音乐。
